I had good reason to be late though, I was away from my sewing machine and inspiration was no where to be found for the entire month of May!! But in June, we escaped to Paros, and that's just what I needed..
E, hope you like it.

Hello, I’m Kimberly! This is my first time to participate in a Quilting Bee. I was a bit nervous, but the first month went very well. I’m super excited about being the Queen Bee this month. I’m a teacher, so I do a lot of sewing during breaks and our school year just ended on May 19th!
I bought the inspiration fabric on sale and thought this would be the perfect opportunity for very creative quilters to make fabulous blocks for an unbelievable finished product. I like the strong graphic elements, but I’m especially looking for texture. I have provided each participant with my inspiration fabric, coordinating fabrics, and a texture element. I have fussy-cut the main fabric, and no two people received exactly the same block ingredients. Here is a list of some texture ideas I brainstormed:
Selvage Piping Zippers
Hexagons Chenille Cathedral windows
Rick rack Prairie points
12.5” block please
Use the fabric provided
Feel free to add more texture or fabric from your stash as long as it coordinates with the inspiration or coordinating fabrics
Add some texture
Have FUN…I can’t wait to see what each of you creates!!! J
Yesterdays meeting was fantastic. It was great seeing everyone, and we accomplished sooo much.
We have decided that we have grown and have so many wonderful things happening that we have to form a not-for-profit corporation. We have selected officers and there term will run through next August 31, 2012.
Now let me present the newly formed Board of the NYC Metro Modern Quilt Guild, Inc.

We will continue to have meetings every other month. We are off for the summer and our next meeting will be on Saturday October 1, 2011.
We have also agreed on a dues amount, to help fund all of the wonderful things that are happening for our blossoming guild. The dues year will begin on September 1, 2011 and notices will be going out to remind everyone.
We have formed a Bylaws committee. The committee members are, myself (Earamichia), Amy S., Daniela, Nicole K., And Cassandra. We will have the Bylaws completed and distributed before the October meeting so that they can be adopted at the October meeting.
In lieu of an October 2011 show, we have been asked to participate in the Original Sewing & Quilt EXPO. We will be featured in nine cities beginning in September 2011 through April 2012. When we get our pieces back, we will work on our New York showing. The information for the show was distributed at the meeting. For those participants that were not able to make the meeting, we will provide you with the necessary information. Amy S. Is the point person for the show. You can email nycmetromod at gmail dot com with any questions. Registration is now CLOSED for this event.
We had our lovely cheddar block on display, as well as our finished stripe block top.
We had an abbreviated show and tell that was posted already.
This concludes the highlights of our meeting.
I ended up handpiecing large hexagons for the block. I included rickrack, selvedges, lace overlay and pintucked fabric for a lot of interesting texture elements. After I handpieced the hexagons, I machine-sewed the blocks to some plain white fabric. Enjoy!
For July, we are doing TWO meet-ups (to accommodate people's vacation schedules)! We will be holding two "Patchwork in the Park" days, where folks can meet up to enjoy the summer, chat, eat lunch, and bring their handwork and/or show-and-tell with them! Come to both!
Saturday, July 9th (raindate: Sunday, July 10th)
Saturday, July 23rd (raindate: Sunday, July 24th)
11:00am to 2:00pm
Central Park, just WEST of the Great Lawn (under the trees in the shade). Enter the park at 81st Street from the West side or the East side. It is hard to give an exact location depending on the availability of space, but just walk along the trees on the western edge of the Great Lawn ballfields to find us. Click here for a map (the Great Lawn is in the middle).
--Lunch and drinks for yourself.
--Dessert for the group (optional).
--Picnic blanket or sheet.
--Handwork projects! Ideas: quilt bindings, English paper piecing, applique, quilt labels, embroidery, mending, crocheting, a drawing sketchbook.
--Show and tell (optional and very informal).
--If is is not raining on the morning of the event, we will hold it as usual. Thundershowers are common forecasts for the summer, but they usually happen in the late afternoon.
--If it is raining on the morning of the event, I will post a notice on the Blog that we will hold the event on the raindate.
--Feel free to include crafting-inclined friends (even knitters...gasp!) and significant others. Warm-weather fun is all-inclusive! Just warn them that it will be a sewing-focused day, so they should bring a book or other way to entertain themselves. :)
--Feel free to post questions on the blog! See you soon!
