May 2023 Meeting Recap

Our May meeting included all our usual activities (show and tell, block lotto, etc.) plus a 'members teaching members' workshop.

We started the meeting with a couple of announcements...

We're still collecting quilts for 'Our Little Roses' and the deadline for donations is our next meeting (June 3rd.) We will gladly accept any size - even baby quilts - and also unquilted tops. Thank you very much to everyone who has already donated a quilt to this truly worthy cause!

We're holding a raffle for this group quilt, which is based on the 'Garden' pattern by Deborah Fisher...

Guild members can buy raffle tickets during our June meeting - and then we'll have the prize draw at the end of the meeting. One lucky guild member will get to take the quilt home!

Claire kicked off Show and Tell with a quilt top that she made using a 'drunkard's path' template...

Diana showed a mini quilt that she made with African prints. She machine quilted it with chunky thread...

Diana also showed this Maria Shell-esque mini quilt, which is double sided...

Jacqui showed this tied quilt, which she made as a transition/healing project...

Maureen showed a tied quilt that she's donating to Our Little Roses...

Judy added a piece to this 'round robin' quilt and then passed it on to Chris E. for its next addition...

Amy brought in two antique quilts that were gifted to her by a friend. The first is a 'puff' quilt featuring a scrappy collection of velvets...

The second one is a classic 'crazy' quilt featuring scraps of velvet, satin, lace and hand embroidery...

Amy also showed this king-sized quilt of her own making...

Theresa made a quilt for Our Little Roses using fabrics from the scraps table...

Nancy made this quilt for Our Little Roses...

Vickeidy showed her new 'Rosalia' quilt pattern, which is available on her Sewspicious website...

Susan showed an improvisational mini quilt that she made out of recycled fabric scraps. It's hand quilted...

Susan also made another mini quilt out of recycled denim scraps...

Eva showed a quilt top that she made out of orphan blocks donated by various guild members...

This month's Block Lotto was a chance to experiment with combining warm and cool colors. The stack of blocks was won by Christine...

Next month's Block Lotto features polka dot fabrics and half square triangles with a wide choice of block arrangements. Bruce has emailed the instructions to all of our guild members.

We ended the meeting with a 'members teaching members' workshop, where guild members demonstrated how to join the ends of quilt binding, how to face a quilt and how to make a 'burrito' style pillowcase.

That's it for this month. See you next month!
