May 2022 Meeting Recap

We've resumed our in-person guild meetings!

In May 2022 we finally resumed our in-person guild meetings after a two year hiatus. After so much time spent apart it was a joy to see old friends and new friends alike. We met at Saint Mary's Church on Grand Street, where Father Andrew O'Connor welcomed us and told us a little bit about the church's rich history as part of New York's iconic Lower East Side neighborhood. Our members enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with each other while snacking on tasty donuts (courtesy of Maria) and delicious homemade lemon cakes (courtesy of Deborah).

Deborah kicked off the meeting with a fun ice-breaker activity and a reminder about the guild's current charity projects...

Charity Quilts

Chris E. is collecting quilts for Ukrainian refugees.

Theresa M. is collecting quilts for Our Little Roses in Honduras.

Maureen W. is collecting quilts for Room to Grow in NYC.

Quilts can be collected at our summer retreat and at our June guild meeting - or you can contact people individually to make your own arrangements. Please refer to the recent email from Deborah for people's contact details.

Show and Tell

Nancy kicked off the Show and Tell session by modeling our guild's stylish and distinctive Coat of Arms. After adding an embroidered patch to the coat, Nancy passed it on to Eva for its next adventure. 

Jean showed us her latest addition to this Round Robin quilt top and passed it on to Jeannine for the next step in its evolution.

Maria showed us this completed Round Robin quilt. In true 'ugly quilt' fashion, the quilt features an eye-popping selection of novelty fabrics on the back. The quilt will be raffled at our June guild meeting and one lucky guild member will get to take it home for keeps.

Eva showed us a baby quilt that she's donating to Room to Grow.

Jeannine showed us two quilts that she's donating to Ukrainian refugees - one of which is made in blue and yellow to represent the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

Cathy commemorated her father by making this beautiful top out of his blue and white striped shirts.

Diana modeled this stylish handmade blouse in honor of 'Me-Made May'.

Jean made this delightful string quilt top out of scraps.

Diane showed us a beautiful hand-appliqued quilt top and another hand-sewn quilt top with curved piecing that she made out of scraps.

Maria showed us a charming scalloped quilt and a kid's quilt that she's donating to Our Little Roses.

Chris showed us two quilts that she's donating to Ukrainian refugees - one with house blocks, and another with the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Chris has been tirelessly leading a quilt drive to support Ukraine and she has collected 130 quilts to date! 

Colette showed us this vibrant square-within-a-square quilt top.

Emily showed us this intricately pieced mini quilt that she started in a workshop with RaNae Merrill in 2017.

Sue took a quilt that she made in 2018 and gave it a new life as a patchwork chore coat. Those of us who remember seeing the original quilt were thrilled to see it again in its reincarnated form!

Sam showed us two charming baby quilts and a watercolor mini quilt that she made in a class with Carolina Oneto.
