NYC Metro Mod X FabScrap challenge!

To inspire us to make use of reclaimed and recycled fabrics, NYC Metro Mod has teamed up with FabScrap for a mini-quilt challenge! The challenge was launched at our October meeting and is a members only challenge, so if you haven't paid your dues for the year yet please do!

The Challenge: Make a mini-quilt or cushion cover inspired by the word FABULOUS from materials rescued from landfill by FabScrap. Quilts will be displayed in the FabScrap Shop in December!

Size: Between 12-16" on the longest side, and no bigger than 64" total circumference.

Materials: Please use as close to 100% FabScrap provided fabric as possible, this includes backing fabric and batting! There will be a small selection of scraps available at the November meeting for those who missed out in October. Remember that if you volunteer to sort fabric at FabScrap in Brooklyn, you get to take home up to 5 pounds of fabric for free! Scraps are also available to purchase by the pound at the Manhattan store. We are not going to be policing your fabric so if you need to supplement try to stick as close to the spirit of creative reuse as possible.

Finishing: Mini-quilts should have either a hanging sleeve (video) or tabs in the top two corners (video) for display. If you are making a cushion cover, please also sew an insert of the correct size, leaving a small opening for stuffing, so that we can make pillows out of recycled shoddy.

Deadline: All quilts will be collected at the DECEMBER meeting and will be taken to the FabScrap shop immediately after the meeting. They will be returned to the guild president at the end of December, and given back to members in February.

Happy recycling!
