This one made me the most nervous. What a challenge!

I stared at this, let it sink in, looked it up online, and stewed over it.

I had everything set aside, and finally decided to make it today.

A couple of firsts were to "thread paint" and hand-sewing sequins.

I sincerely hope Rossanna likes it.

Ariana asked for a geometric shape. I decided on an equilateral triangle made of the three fabrics she included. It let me play with some angles and practice a y-seam. The math teacher in me was proud of the result.

Emily N.'s tea-inspired applique block. I used a Pigma Micron marker (permanent) to doodle the steam. Fun!

Caught Up...for Today

It's been a long time since I've posted. I've been in a bit of a sewing funk, but I've been trying to keep up with the bee blocks.

I think I've been overwhelmed with UFO's and fabric (including LOTS of scraps that I just cannot bear to do away with, but they WILL be used in a project).

It's hard to believe that this is the 4th year for this bee. It all started back in May 2011. The creativity is staggering. Every month, I am amazed at the incredible block ideas and look forward to seeing the finished quilts. In the meantime, I'm not-so-patiently waiting for the next Serial podcast and anxious to see what block we get to make for December.

Rossanna's instructions to make a liberated 9-patch was easy enough. Adding the recycled candy wrapper flowers and embellishment kind of threw me a bit. In the end, I like the result.

October Maria's flying geese. The "no waste" instructions were fantastic. For the liberated version, I had the geese fly in the traditional "V" formation. I wanted the smallest to be in the lead and appear ombré (the mid-sized geese match the fabric on the other block).

Liberated log cabin for Andrea - I love the way this type of block looks in a quilt. It harkens back to string quilts and using what you have.

Small paper-pieced fans for Judith. The straight lines of these really show how easy paper-piecing can be.

December 2014 Giant HST Blocks For Chris (That's Me!)

December is my turn to be Queen Bee and I'm asking everyone in the Bee to make me two giant HSTs (16.5" square). I need 36 blocks in total so I've made the first 14 myself (pic below)

There's a full tutorial for my Giant HST Quilt on my blog made by ChrissieD and I'll be handing out printed instructions and fabric at Saturday's meeting. Anyone not there I'll post your packages on to you next week - Chris :)

Caught Up.....for now

Every month, it's so fun to see what each queen has chosen for the bee members to make. A lot of times, it's blocks that I have never seen before, and I imagine how fantastic they will look with all the other blocks in the finished quilt.

I spent some of Thanksgiving break pressing HSTs and got blocks on the design wall from the Dutch Rose block made from vintage sheets. Now, I'm going to make the most of this icy, snowy weather by working out sashing and borders on my bee quilt.
