Ariana asked for a geometric shape.  I decided on an equilateral triangle made of the three fabrics she included.  It let me play with some angles and practice a y-seam.  The math teacher in me was proud of the result.


Emily N.'s tea-inspired applique block.  I used a Pigma Micron marker (permanent) to doodle the steam.  Fun!

Rossanna's instructions to make a liberated 9-patch was easy enough.  Adding the recycled candy wrapper flowers and embellishment kind of threw me a bit.  In the end, I like the result.

Liberated log cabin for Andrea - I love the way this type of block looks in a quilt.  It harkens back to string quilts and using what you have.

Small paper-pieced fans for Judith.  The straight lines of these really show how easy paper-piecing can be.

Here are my four blocks, Ellen, and you were right: paper piecing them was the way to go! So perfect! I really liked how they came together. Now, I hope they don't get wrinkled in the mail. Enjoy!

We've been hit with ice, snow, and bitterly cold temperatures.  There was no mail delivery yesterday (I guess the mail lady couldn't get her delivery truck to start), but I got Chris's fabric in the mail today.  Within about an hour or so, I had the blocks cut, sewn, pressed, and ready to mail.



There are so many possibilities of what to do with these blocks.  The hardest part was NOT trimming.

Every month, it's so fun to see what each queen has chosen for the bee members to make.  A lot of times, it's blocks that I have never seen before, and I imagine how fantastic they will look with all the other blocks in the finished quilt.

I spent some of Thanksgiving break pressing HSTs and got blocks on the design wall from the Dutch Rose block made from vintage sheets.  Now, I'm going to make the most of this icy, snowy weather by working out sashing and borders on my bee quilt.

Fractured Triangle for Andrea

These wonky blocks are on their way to Daniela's home. The images don't do justice to the bright colors of the fabrics. I hope you like them, Daniela!

This was a fun block to make for Maren.  I decided to put a small frame around the outside to control all the seams along the edge.
 I like the look of this block and might do this with some of my little scraps.

These blocks are so fun to make.  We had a snow day from school yesterday, so I made this quick and easy block.  Earlier this year, I jumped on the Scrappy Trip Along bandwagon along with so many other quilters.  I look forward to seeing how this quilt looks when it's finished.

I like being able to use scraps to make bee blocks.  I think it's because I'm really drawn to the scrappy look.   On my first try, I messed up on the inner square, and the u-shapes didn't interlock.  I spent some time unsewing, then resewing to make the blues twist correctly.  It will be great to see the completed quilt.

This was a fun block to make, and I'm so pleased with the result.  It makes me remember just how much I adore Dresden blocks.  The variety of fabrics that Brian sent was awesome.  Also, the template included was much appreciated.

Here's a labor-intensive bee quilt I finished today.  I probably should have taken pictures as I went along putting this together.  It is made from 24 blocks - all from two Modern Blocks bees on Flickr based on the book Modern Blocks.  In the book, the block is called 'Stone Cathedral.'  I supplied the solid gray background and each member sewing in their choice of pink 'windows' and gave me small squares to use when putting the blocks together.  What surprised me about this quilt was it's weight.  All that folded fabric adds up.  All it needs is a label.

I tried to get some better photos of my New York Beauty quilt since I finished the binding and label.  I have it hanging in my living room.  I love looking at it.
 The quilting was done in yellow thread.

I'm not the biggest fan of hand-sewing, so I kind of cheat by catching two sides of the label when I sew on the binding.
