Deborah sent us precisely pre-cut fabric and beautifully detailed instructions to create a variation of a pattern called Interlocking Seasons.  Here's my finished block.


I love this pattern because it looks complicated, but if you follow the instructions, it's really not very difficult.  I also love it because it has one of Deborah's favorite fabrics, which makes me smile.

I was working on the block at Dear Jane class, and Diane pointed out that it is fairly similar to the Maze of Madness block (which I loved making, despite its name).  The blocks are similar, although Deborah's is significantly larger.


Looking forward to seeing this fabulous quilt.

As March queen bee, Nellie asked us all to make Mondrian-inspired blocks.  She assigned us each two blocks and sent fabric to cover everything.  She asked us to replace one of the colored squares in each block with a tone-on-tone fabric of our own.


This is going to be one bold and modern quilt.  Can't wait to see the finished creation.

Here's my inspiration picture and my finished block for February Queen Bee Rossanna. I couldn't have been happier to be assigned a squirrel.  It gave me an opportunity to use some (and yet not all) of my squirrel fabrics. Thanks to Deborah for pointing me in the right direction to find beads to add some bling.

Here are my rainbow blocks for Maria, our December queen.  The number of green blocks shouldn't surprise anyone.



I don't know how "traditional" my center block is, but I wasn't at all confident that I could accurately make a tiny churn dash (my favorite traditional block). A cathedral window variation is kind of traditional, right?

Sandy jumped on board the scrappy-trip-around-the-world train as queen of the Lucky Bee for November.  She sent along some blue, white, and gold strips, and asked us to add more of the same (especially yellows). Since I've done quite a few of these blocks lately (for Queen Tina last month and for Diana's Golden Needle), it was almost a matter of calling on muscle memory to assemble these two blocks.


I see a lovely scrappy quilt in Sandy's future.  (Who doesn't love blue and yellow together?)

Here's my Lucky Bee block for September queen, Jenny.  I love the "Homage to a Square" inspiration and the addition of a Liberty print was a nice touch.

It seems that I am the odd man out with my bee block for Ellen.  I was inspired to try a scrappy block inspired by a classic silhouette instead of a more traditional portrait.  (It seemed like a good idea before everyone else started posting their stunningly detailed portraits.)  At least it will give the quilt a touch of variety.

After being away for a week and playing catch-up at work, I took time this weekend to get back to my machine and work on the bee blocks requested by Margaret -- four half log cabins with light neutral strips and solid corner squares that she provided.  Each row of colored strips have one that is two colors and a coordinating strip with more colors.  She requested that we refrain from using rulers to cut our strips and trimmimg the finished blocks. It was a fun challenge pulling the right fabrics.  I hope you like them, Margaret!

And here's yet another block for our Lucky Chris's Bee Quilt.  It's going to be smashing when all together, I think.

I took advantage of today's chilly, drizzly weather to do bee blocks for Chris Economos (her first month as queen bee!).

I like the consistency of the blue diagonal and can't wait to see how everyone's blocks fit together.

After getting over the panic/quandary about which side to sew to which piece of paper - it was an exciting finish. This is going to be a gorgeous quilt.
