April Lucky Bee block for Deborah

Deborah sent us precisely pre-cut fabric and beautifully detailed instructions to create a variation of a pattern called Interlocking Seasons.  Here's my finished block.

I love this pattern because it looks complicated, but if you follow the instructions, it's really not very difficult.  I also love it because it has one of Deborah's favorite fabrics, which makes me smile.

I was working on the block at Dear Jane class, and Diane pointed out that it is fairly similar to the Maze of Madness block (which I loved making, despite its name).  The blocks are similar, although Deborah's is significantly larger.

Looking forward to seeing this fabulous quilt.

Lucky Bee 13

Progress!

Loving the blocks given to me in April!
And I've added a whole bunch more!
It was a challenge figuring out how to assemble
once the quarter blocks were put together.
My first plan which was not to sew on borders
didn't work ... just looked too chaotic.

Here are the 3 panels ready to be sandwiched & quilted separately.
When that's done I'll join them.

Can you find your blocks?
They are all in here somewhere!

Lucky Bee 13

April Bee Blocks for Lucky Bee 13

and All Members of NYC MetroMod Are Invited to Participate

My niece, a quilter who lives in France and a volunteer for the  second International Festival of Extra Ordinary Textiles in Clermont-Ferrand has invited our guild to participate. Our task is to create a modern quilt that will be used during picnics to be held in the Jardin Lecoq park.  (The picnics will be done "flash mob" style with people showing up, a quilt under their arm.  Then when a text message arrives the quilts will be opened and spread on the grass!)  Ultimately all quilts will be auctioned off to benefit Doctors Without Borders.

In keeping with the Festival's theme, this event requires that quilts be made of recycled fabrics.  I have been gifted old sample upholstery/pillow/drapery fabric
which I will give to each member of Lucky Bee 13.  Additionally, I will give any member of the guild fabric, providing you make 4 blocks (4.5x8.5) and send them to me by May 10.  Quilts must be postmarked by July 31.  The festival runs Sept 20-28.

I am requesting four blocks similar to this photo.  The fabric is not as easy to work with as cotton!!!

If you are not in my Bee and wish to participate, please comment here.  I will
bring packets to the April Meeting.  Hope there are some takers!

A nice word or words...

Lucky 13 Bee April block

For Margaret, a bit overdue but this was fun and turned out better than I expected!

Star for Jody for April - I've never done a complicated paper-piecing project, but after finding a book of instructions at the table at the last meeting, I couldn't resist trying it for this star block. It was HARD to do, and far from perfect, but as Helen said to me "It's better done than perfect."
