More Triangles Galore for NYC Mod Bee

I just finished Lisa's July Bee block, and I really enjoyed making it.  The paper piecing was fast and easy, the fabric choices were amazing (love Kaffe Fassett, especially that indigo blue print!) and the completed design looked beautiful!

I can't wait to see Lisa's finished quilt!

April Bee Block - Stars for Suzanne!

I completed this star block for Suzanne the other day.  She provided all of the beautiful fabrics...they were so much fun to use together!  I fussy-cut the center for some added "pop."  For the pattern, I used a slightly-modified version of THIS block.

I hope Suzanne enjoys it!

March Bee Block - Double Trouble Star

I just finished Carole's Bee block for March!  I made a double wonky star.  Lots of fun to make, and I can't wait to see the finished quilt!

I explained more about the block design in my latest blog post.  Enjoy, Carole!

February NYC Mod Bee Block - Children's Log Cabin

For February's NYC Mod Bee, Kim each gave us a print of a child to work with and some brown fabric.  She asked us to make a log cabin block (wonky or not) and incorporate both items, using the nationality of the child as an inspiration for the block.

I received a print of a child in a kimono, so I used my Japanese-style fabrics (Sashiko cheater cloth, kimono-inspired fabrics, etc):

I hope Kim enjoys it, and I can't wait to see the other blocks!

NYC Mod Bee - Signature Block (January 2012)

I just completed my signature block for Maureen!  I decided to "make" fabric and use one of the great tutorials on the 15 Minutes Play site.  I chose the Square in a Star tutorial and had a lot of fun making it:

Scraptastic!  I love all of the other blocks that have been posted on the blog, and I can't wait to start February's block.  :)

NYC Mod Bee - December Hanukkah Block

I just finished Helen's block for the NYC Mod Bee!  She asked us to use gold, glittery fabric and make a holiday-themed block.  I went with Hanukkah:

You can read more about the process HERE.  By the way, the second One Yard Wonders book just got released, and one of my projects is on page 127 (called "The Jet Set").  You can read more about it HERE and enter for a chance to win a copy of the book!

Happy holidays and happy quilting!

South Florida Modern Quilt Guild!

Hello from Florida!  I hope everyone has an amazing meeting today, and I'm sorry that I won't be in NYC to participate in the festivities.  Everything is going well in Florida, and I am happy to report that the Modern Quilt Guild has a new chapter!

Yes, the South Florida Modern Quilt Guild (a/k/a "South Florida Mod") is up and running.  We had our first meeting the other week, and it was a standing-room only crowd of over 25 quilters, many of whom had never been to a quilt guild meeting before.  I led the meeting, and it was a great time.

You can read more about South Florida Mod HERE, and check out our new official website HERE.  If you're visiting Florida or have a friend or family member in the area (Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale), feel free to come to our meetings!

If anyone has ideas for an inter-guild swap or activity, we would definitely be interested as well.  Hope all is well in New York, and have a great holiday season!

NYC Mod Bee Block for December

Here is my block for Jessica this month, which is part of the Kitchen Windows quilt that she is making.  I'm calling it the Flora and Fauna Block because I added botanical prints and some wildlife (do gnomes count as wildlife?)

Enjoy!

Solids Challenge - Funfetti Block!

I just completed the solids challenge block from the fabric that we received in the last meeting!  It was great working with the new Michael Miller line, and I love the feel of the fabrics.

Funfetti!

You can read more about the block HERE.

PS:  The Modern Blocks quilt book is now shipping from Amazon!  I am hosting a giveaway for a free eBook copy of the book.  You can enter HERE until November 1st.  Good luck!

Monkey in the Middle Block

For this month's NYC Mod Bee, Mary asked us to make freeform versions of the classic Monkey Wrench block.  I had a lot of fun making this block, which is actually two Monkey Wrench blocks in one!

You can read more about my process HERE.  Enjoy!
