Photos of March Meeting: Group Stuff and Helen's Interview

A nice group at the meeting yesterday, including several quilters who came for the first time.

Remember the Michael Miller group challenge? Victoria took some of those blocks and turned them into something that only she could have imagined. Amazing!!

The wonky log cabin blocks that several people made definitely say "spring." Can't wait to see the finished quilt!

Name tags! I only got photos of two that were swapped, but I did manage to capture one of the best--David's, with the strategically positioned 'V' made by Emily.

John interviewed Helen for the Quilters' Save Our Stories project. So great to learn more about one of our incredible members, thank you both for participating!

Group Quilts June Update

Every quilt we make as a group is more amazing than the last.

These reworked traditional blocks are going to look great when they're sashed.

This stripes quilt top is my new favorite, but that's only because it's the one most recently completed.

And my favorite most-recently-quilted quilt is this cheddar challenge!

Finally, here are the first bunch of blocks for the our Mod Bee, for Earamichia. Looking forward to seeing this one come together!

Out from the depths

Of my sewing room closet.. this quilt hasn't seen the light of day in about 2 years.

I started it in 2004. The star blocks were a going-away present from the members of my guild in Atlanta. I moved from ATL to MA in '04, and from MA to NY in '08. The MA guild gave me friendship blocks too, but I haven't even touched them yet..

I pieced this together with interesting sashing methods (the blocks didn't square up, but then again, i didn't have a square ruler either..) and clearly thought that all orange fabrics must be the same. Strangely, I still have some of that darker orange in my stash, so I didn't switch to the lighter one because I was running out.. was it a concious design decision? Oh, how my mind worked at 24!

After piecing all of the green blocks from my stash, I went out and dropped $9+/yard on an awesome batik for the back. Crazy. Then I started handquilting in pearl cotton. I had a plan at the start, but it wasn't an easy quilt design to keep up with and I think that's why I abandoned it in '04. I have pulled it out a few times over the years when I wanted something to handquilt, but the wierd design always stops me. Looking at it on the fence yesterday made me think about how I could alter the quilt pattern to make it workable. We'll see.

I'd like to have this finished, it's a great memory piece. Most of the blocks are signed and I remember all of the women. It was a great guild to be in at the time.

Group Quilts

I ended up with this one shot of the February Challenge quilt, which I took in black and white because I was checking out the values. It's another excellent collaboration!

Jessica's round-robin quilt keeps growing! Margaret had it last, and now it's on to Earamichia.

Meanwhile, Jessica transformed some coasters made by Earamichia into the beginnings of this Goddess of Good Ideas round-robin quilt. I've got it now, along with a bunch of scraps from the scrap swap, and I'm excited to see how it evolves!
