Lucky 13 Bee Block for Naomi

Lucky 13 Bee - Block for Naomi

Here's my bee block for Noami. I really loved the fabric and the freedom of this month's block. I tried a couple, new-to-me techniques: curved piecing, NY Beauty Block and mitered corners. It was nice to try these things without committing to making an entire quilt and repeating them dozens of times.

The theme was water, so I'd initially tried to create a sort of puddle/water drop in a pond look using the green center piece and some curved piecing. Not highly successful, so I switched gears to this paper pieced pattern, which still conveys something of that idea to me. I also used very "watery" fabrics, batiks with water movement and droplets picking up colors that appeared in the hand dyed fabrics we were given.

And the second leaf to fall...

I made a second leaf for Naomi with much neater appliqué (someone finally remembered her lightweight fusible interfacing was designed for exactly this sort of thing). The background fabric this time is Kona cinnamon, 10.5" square.

Sewing for Fall in an August thunderstorm

My first attempt at a Fall leaf for Naomi. The applique is a little... rustic. I think since I have so much of the original fabric left I might attempt another leaf iteration! The base block is 10" square.

Binita's Liberated Log Cabin Bee Block

I've spent the afternoon working on this liberated log cabin block for Binita and have loved every minute of it as her instructions gave us so much freedom :) . You can see a bit more about it on my blog post Liberated Log Cabin - My August Bee Block

Bee Block Catch-up

I finished Mary's on time~

This was probably the easiest, quickest bee block I have made to date. And SO. MUCH. FUN.
Thanks Mary~ your quilt will be awesome (and finished by the december meeting, right? hehe).

And at long last, David's:

I hope there's room left for this on in your quilt top. I'm sorry it's late. At least I got it done before your 42nd..

I've got November, so I'll be posting about it on Tuesday, with instructions sent by email. I am sending some solid fabrics, but bee members will need to choose 5 prints from their own stash. (the largest being 6.5" x 6.5") Before I head to the post office tomorrow, is there anyone who would like me to send the print fabric also? I'd prefer to have prints of your choosing, but I don't want anyone to go out and buy fabric for this block. I assume everyone has prints, but thought I'd double check to be safe...
